How to Embrace Humor in Your Marriage and Strengthen Your Bond when Married to a Goofy Guy: funny marriage advice for Christian couples

Updated: May 8

Is anyone else married to a klutz- a clumsy, foolish, or awkward person?

Ladies, please tell me I’m not the only one. I say this jokingly with the biggest grin on my face. LOL. ;)

My husband is a strong, powerful, and righteous man of God. He is absolutely precious in my eyes!

But let’s face facts.

He is downright clumsy at times. I still think he's cute though.

He is constantly bumping into walls or knocking things over. Sometimes he is just a big clodhopper, bonehead, and goofball all in one.

Can I get a witness?

Anyone???

goofy marriage story, funny marriage advice

Let me give you an example of some of his goofy behaviors. :)

I have a set of adorable bird book ends that I use for holding up my cookbooks.

I love it when my hubby cooks, but I don’t know how many times one of them has been decapitated in the process of him reaching for a recipe. He is constantly knocking one over. By now, he knows they are there and should know they are fragile. Yet, I have had to glue a head back on in more than one occasion.

funny
I mean, how many times can a poor bird receive resurrection?!?

Oh well, I love him still and always will. I forgive my husband for his few shortcomings. This is what you do in marriage. You love one another for better or worse.

marriage advice for christian couples
Me and my goofy guy have been happily married for over 20 years!

Did you know that God loves us in this same way?

At times, we are all klutzy, clumsy, and careless with our words or our bodies.

We tend to break hearts, wound souls, or crush spirits as we reach for things outside of the will of God.

We are reckless and rebellious.

But did you know that God also forgives us for our weaknesses and faults, as long as we confess our shortcomings, repent (change our minds and turn away from destructive and sinful behavior), and ask for His forgiveness?

At that point, our foolishness is remembered no more! He erases our mistakes and covers all our sins.

It doesn’t mean that we won’t make any more in the future, it simply means our record of wrongs is left in the past, forgotten and forgiven.

The Bible tells us in these promises:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

{1 John 1:9 NIV}

“I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.

{Isaiah 43:25 NIV}

For I will demonstrate my mercy to them and will forgive their evil deeds, and never remember again their sins.”

{Hebrews 8:12 TPT}

When we turn towards God and receive His gift of Salvation— we also Receive the gift of Resurrection!

His blood made atonement for all the sins of His people, both now and forever.

For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life.

{John 3:16 TPT}

Farther than from a sunrise to a sunset— that’s how far you’ve removed our guilt from us.

{Psalm 103:12}

Not through our works, but through the work of our Bridegroom, Jesus Christ- His work on the cross saved all who will look to Him and receive Him as Lord and Savior!

When we receive Him we become His Bride.

For your Maker is your husband— the Lord Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.

{Isaiah 54:5}

Let’s face facts.

Jesus is married to a Klutz!

But in His eyes, He sees us (His Bride-the Church) as precious and righteous. Although, at times, we still behave clumsy, foolish, and careless.

He Loves Us Still and Always Will.

This is what you do in marriage. You love one another for better or worse. ;)

He has forgiven us for all our past, present, and future shortcomings.

And if we believe and confess that He Himself, was raised from the dead, then we too will be saved and resurrected from death!
We become a new creation and receive the gift of His Spirit who is at work in us to make us more like Him.

Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new creation. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new.

{2 Corinthians 5:17 TPT}

[This would include our old identity, our life of sin, the power of Satan, the religious works of trying to please God, our old relationship with the world, and our old mind-sets. We are not reformed or simply refurbished, we are made completely new by our union with Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.]

Unlike my poor birdies, He doesn’t just mend us and patch us up, leaving behind old cracks, wear, and tear.

He makes us WHOLE and TRANSFORMS us into a completely NEW CREATION!!

Only He is a true Savior. The only One that has the Power to Resurrect and give NEW LIFE!

butterfly spiritual meaning

Jesus explained, “I am the Way, I am the Truth, and I am the Life. No one comes next to the Father except through union with me. To know me is to know my Father too.

{John 14:6}

So here is my next question.

Do you know Jesus—the giver of New and Everlasting Life?

You can!

The Bible says:

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

{Romans 10:9-13 NIV}

Good News for All People

So then faith eliminates the distinction between Jew and non-Jew, for he is the same Lord Jehovah for all people. And he has enough treasures to lavish generously upon all who call on him. And it’s true:

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Yahweh will be rescued and experience new life.”

{Romans 10:12-13 TPT}

That is Good News!

We all behave goofy at times.

But please don’t be a poor bird that refuses to Receive Resurrection and misses the opportunity to Become a New Creation.

As much as I am in love with my husband,

Jesus’ love for you and I is beyond compare.

He loves us so much that He gave His life in order to be with us forever, if we will have Him?

He wants you to become His Bride.

Call on the name of the Lord and be saved!

Praise the name of Jesus, the Savior of the World, for His gift of Resurrection!
